No, Sports Massage does not need to be painful. We always work with a 1-5 pressure scale (being 1 a gentle stroke and 5 very painful). We aim to work at a maximum of 3-3.5, as any more pressure will make the muscles tense up, making it harder to work on them. However, some people prefer a more intense type of pressure, which we can adapt to if requested.
It depends, but it is a possibility. It will depend on the condition of the muscles we treat, the level of hydration in your body, the duration of the technique over a particular muscle, and your level of sensitivity, among other factors. Nonetheless, some level of soreness is a natural response and indicates the massage is addressing muscle tension and helping with its recovery, so it can be considered a positive side effect of a Sports Massage.
For Sports Massage, we use our own mix of bee/candelilla wax and pure essential oils wax -we have different ones for you to choose from. We also use organic grapefruit oil for very sensitive skin (also for pre/post-event massage) and scented massage oils for Relaxing Massage.
Sports Massage does not usually require massaging the scalp, so it shouldn’t get dirty unless treating the neck area, where small traces of wax might be in contact with the hair. However, the Swedish Full-Body Massage can involve gentle strokes over the scalp, so you might get some oil on your hair. Nevertheless, we can always adapt the massage to your needs and make sure we do not get any product on your hair.
Absolutely nothing, we have all done it at some point – or have been very close to doing so. It is a good sign, as it means you are fully unwound and the treatment is achieving, at least, one of its objectives: to relax you. If you prefer to be woken up (if I sense you have drifted off), simply let us know at the beginning of the session.
